Hand to Mouth
THE MEAT MARKET, MELBOURNE, 2008
Participatory Dinner Party, in collaboration with Boo Chapple
Hand to Mouth is a large scale participatory performance realised with a large team of collaborators including chefs, performers, volunteers and production crew. The performance brought together a live jazz band, a production line of forty uniformed participants, and an elevated dining table seating eight invited guests.
The production line prepared unusual and theatrical dishes served in latex gloves or cast in the shape of hands which were presented to the guests by three elaborately dressed waitresses. Positioned between the production line and the dining table was a large pile of waste accumulated during the three weeks of pre-production, which continued to grow with the remains of each course throughout the evening.
